Focusing FrameworksIt is easy to be overwhelmed by the pace of change in business, organisations, government and society, and the plethora of things we could do to improve situations. Any tools that help to focus thinking about improvement and innovation, and to set achievable and specific targets, can save time, effort, money and other resources. The two diagrams below show how words and diagrams can be combined into Focusing Frameworks to help focus thinking about improvement, in this case improving enterprise profit in a beef production business. Using an equation with information organised in simple columns (as in the top diagram) can encourage people to focus on important components of profit. Using a flow diagram (as in the bottom diagram), tends to encourage people to look at a wider range of logical connections between the same elements. No matter what the context – from business growth to emergency healthcare – it is possible to develop a Focusing Framework. An example of Focusing Framework for another context – landscape health – is shown on the next page. |
